Hello, my name is Julie Hutchison.
Thank you to those of you who donated to the Institute for Attachment and Child Development’s therapeutic respite program.
Because of donors like you, my husband and I were able to get some time to connect and rejuvenate while our daughter received therapeutic care from trained staff for a weekend (here’s a picture of my husband and I relaxing and reconnecting).
The respite program at IACD is different from others because it’s not merely childcare. Rather, our daughter received high-quality and effective therapeutic respite care from IACD staff.
It’s extremely demanding to care for a child with reactive attachment disorder. Therapists tell us time and again how much my husband and I need to take care of ourselves so we can care for our child. Yet, it’s nearly impossible for my husband and I to find time to replenish our energy and connect as a couple. Care from family, friends, camps and the like are out of question for our family.
Due to our daughter’s reactive attachment disorder, only trained specialists can care for her when we’re away. Insurance and adoption subsidies don’t cover the care she needs so we have to pay out of pocket.
So, again, thank you. Your donation to IACD’s therapeutic respite program is two-fold.
You help to provide high-quality therapeutic care for kids with reactive attachment disorder. At the same time, you provide parents with the time they need to care for themselves so that they are better able to care for their children.
You have much such a difference for our family. Because of you, we will start 2015 replenished so we can care for our daughter, as well as ourselves.
With much gratitude,
