This post is one of our Family Friday series when we give you a peek into our family treatment homes. Each Friday, we’ll show you a picture, along with a description from one of our treatment parents or Executive Director Forrest Lien. Learn more about our unique treatment model for children with reactive attachment disorder and meet our treatment families.
“I’m thrilled to brag about *Mike – an outstanding young man who worked hard and progressed immensely while in our treatment program here at the Institute for Attachment and Child Development. I had the privilege of guiding him through the program as his treatment dad. When he graduated from high school last year, I saw him off to the Job Corp for their culinary program.
Mike asked to cook for us when he visited over the holidays last month. As I watched him cook, I reflected upon when he started in the program here at the Institute. Our team had to remind him, again and again, that he was with us to learn how to be a “family kid”, just as we tell all of our kids. Here’s what that looks like today – he knows that he deserves and is capable of genuine and healthy relationships, he has opened his heart to trust and love, and he has the respect to sincerely want to give back to family. Both he and I were beaming that evening when he set that stir fry on the table for all of us. And it’s not just because it was a delicious meal.”
